CV Advice

M D 2.0

According to some estimates every year about 50,000 doctors look for their first or a new job. Some of them do a formal search, while others may just think pr test the waters.

So we have developed this interview room, where one can visit any time, and see for themselves, what is current position in the field or the city/state they are exploring.

This process does not need a three page CV. When you meet someone for the first time, you introduce yourself to them and when you are leaving, give them your business card. We will make this card "CB Card-CV Brief Card for you". It will help decrease the time to look at what you want, and also decrease the sorting time for the person searching for others.

Your CV, just say what you want to do and then your education, research, experience, etc etc. It never does or should mention type of practice you want to join, call schedule, partnership track, benefits you are looking for, compensation model etc. But, isn't that what job search is all about. Secondly your CV may handicap you. For example let’s start at the top. Your name: Is it possible someone picks you for your name, may be. But more than likely it may tell about your race, color etc and your chance of scoring an interview will be diminished rather than enhanced.

Your School: Yes it may give you an edge, but coming from a lesser recognized program does not make you a lesser doctor. Conversely smaller employers may be intimidated by your big name program.

Experience: more than 50% of the job searchers have no experience.

Research: For academic institutions it may be good, whereas for some private practices it may be considered a drag. Except for major articles in reputed journals, who cares if you were the fifty second name in a long list?

So we have established this totally new system, based on common questions and themes that will help you in getting your message across as well as testing the market. Remember this is not the final document, but the introduction. Every stranger that you meet does not need to know your address, your SS#, your date of birth and your maiden name. Aren't they all strangers to you?

Once you have been introduced formally, and you feel comfortable, then we can show them your CV etc.

So we shall begin by giving you a "Professional Specialty name, like Cardiology EP" Followed by "time of graduation/availability, like 07/08.", then type of practice (solo, specialty or multi-specialty), then academic/private/combination. Then employment/partnership-ownership. Then desired call schedule like (1:2. 1:3. 1:4 or less). Compensation model salary, salary plus bonus, Standard Model/MGMA or Group defined.
